Roethlisberger has emergency appendectomy, to miss opener

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had an emergency appendectomy after becoming ill before practice Sunday and will miss Thursday night's season opener against Miami.

Coach Bill Cowher said Roethlisberger will be evaluated each week, and he is not certain how long the quarterback will be out.

Just saw this on Yahoo. This sucks! Now we have to try and win with Charlie Batch as QB against a better Miami Dolphins team than last year. I guess Maddox is third string, but that may not help our chances either.

Cedrick Wislon, yes the WR, he was a High School QB and he is the emergencey QB. I bet they find someone this week don't you?

The Steelers signed their one-time No. 3 quarterback, Brian St. Pierre, to their practice squad Monday. Either St. Pierre or rookie Omar Jacobs, also currently on the practice squad, will be Batch's backup Thursday.
